The concept of depreciation is not a foreign one. I get that there will be a loss of value.
But when your sales associate chooses to throw a 17500 lowball that's nearly 45 percent off of msrp on an absolutely minty 16000 mile loaded to the hilt Dart Limited that is less than a year old?
Fuuuuck you.
And don't send me an email in the five minutes after I walk off the lot begging me to meet in the middle after telling me 17500 was your top offer after trying 16k first.
When your sales person repeatedly pushes "what do you want your payments to be" and fucking pulls foursquare on my ass? Lies and says commissions go to some children's hospital and he works for spiffs?
I will buy my car from another city. And because it's an odd one I will get asked both why I bought it and what I think of it. Often.
And I will tell them that I bought it because it was cheap and insanely fuel efficient, and is actually shockingly well put together for something at the price point.
I will also tell them that I drove out of my way, nearly 400k out of my way, and that the yachimec autogroup likes to waste time and play games.
And another thing.
Your dealership is stocked with so much bro I had to leave my sharp objects in the car. Seriously. Address me as bro one more time and I'll burn your house down with your fucking family inside.
If this is the dealership culture at the average mitsu dealership no wonder the brand is on fucking life support.

Samurai Sam doesn't sound like a Rockstar Energy Drink-sponsored dudebro racer boy. That sales guy sure fits the (flat)bill though.

How did your iPhone have 99% battery? Were you plugged in when you took the screen shots? Is Canada magic?
When I get to full charge and unplug I lose 2% charge just by touching the home button.

I tend to think that Mitsu is on the rocks here... because the only thing they have that is interesting to anyone is the evo... and those who buy non-evo lancers but like to think they purchased an evo. There is nothing else in their line up that interests anyone.
Really I would say you could trace their downfall to the year 2000, when they introduced the Gen 3 Eclipse. The thought behind the 2000 eclipse was to be a car that current eclipse owners could grow into. The took a car that had the most, not even arguably, street cred at the time and killed it. It was one of those cars that didn't cost too much, and was pretty cheap to make fast. At any rate, this foolish move started the downfall.
When you aren't selling cars, it is difficult to attract sales talent, lack of sales talent drives down sales, lather rinse repeat. So long Mitsu, and thanks for all the fish.

While their overall actions are clearly slimy bullshittery, the price doesn't translate for me. 45% off would be what a year-old regular car would be up for sale at around here, let alone the trade in value.

I would suggest calling the other dealer before you drive out there, If your main sticking point is the trade in value, they might not be able to give you what you want. It might be a better experience but still end in the same numbers. Dodge is having a hard time selling new Darts and when there is no demand for new models, last years model has to be sold at a significant discount to even move it. It's a big risk and an out of town dealer that has no chance at making your service money might not want to take the risk with the Dart either. Also If you talk to a salesman first and tell him exactly what happened at the first dealer they will know what needs to be done to get the sale and should be able to tell you if they can at least get close running the numbers.

So I had to go build a Dart on Dodge's site to see what the original price would be.
The Freddie Mercury (I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now) version is for all intents and purposes, US$30K. Throw in above average mileage (Not certain on Canadian numbers, but the US average is 12K miles a year. Some demographics are even less.), and I would expect more depreciation. However, 16KCAD (14.5KUSD) is over a 50% depreciation in one year.
I would expect that value on a base Dart that was in such poor shape, it would go directly to auction. Do not pass Go, Do not collect $200.
